The Will of William Hunnisett,
Shopkeeper of Herstmonceux

This is the last Will and Testament of me William Hunnisett of Herstmonceux in the County of Sussex shopkeeper (that is to say)

I give and bequeath unto my Wife Mary Hunnisett the sum of fifty pounds of lawful money of Great Britain to be paid within three calendar months next after my decease and I give and bequeath all the rest and residue of my Monies Goods Chattels and Personal Estate whatsoever and of what kind or quality soever the same may be after payment of all my just Debts Funeral Expenses ... etc unto John Pursglove of Herstmonceux aforesaid Gentleman his Executors Administrators and Assigns upon trust that he or they shall as soon after my death as the same can conveniently be done convert the whole of my said estate into money and place out the same on some good and sufficient security or securities at interest and pay such interest when and as the same shall from time to time accrue and be received unto my said wife Mary Hunnisett or her assigns for and during the term of her natural life if she shall so long remain my widow, and from and after the decease or second marriage of my said wife which shall first happen Upon Trust such interest money unto Mary Samway a natural daughter born of the body of Hannah Hodge then Hannah Tanner Spinster or her assigns for and during the term of her natural life and after the decease Upon Trust to pay the principal money arising from my said estate unto the children or child of the said Mary Samway living at the time of her death in equal shares and proportions if more than [one] such child share and share alike. And if my personal estate shall be sufficient to satisfy all my said Debts Funeral Expenses and Expenses of proving my said Legacy of fifty pounds by me given to my said wife Mary Hunnisett and the Legacy by me hereinafter given to my Executor I give and devise my Messuage or Tenement Hereditaments and premises situated in Herstmonceux aforesaid and now in my own occupation with the appurtenances unto my said wife Mary Hunnisett and her assigns for and during the term of her natural life if she shall so long remain my widow and from and after her decease or second marriage which shall first happen I give and devise my said Messuage or Tenement Hereditaments and premises with the appurtenances unto the said Mary Samway and her assigns for and during the term of her natural life and from and after her decease then unto the children or child of the said Mary Sanway living at the time of her death and their his or her assign or sssigns for ever as tenants in common if more than one such child and not as joint tenants but if my said personal estate shall not be sufficient to satisfy all my said Debts Funeral Expenses the Expenses of proving my said Will and the several Legacies by me hereby given and disposed of then I give and devise my said Messuage Tenement Hereditaments and Premises with appurtenances unto the said John Pursglove his heirs and assigns for ever Upon Trust that he or they shall with all convenient speed after my decease absolutely sell and dispose of my said Real Estate either by private contract or public auction to any person or persons who shall be willing to become the purchaser or purchasers thereof at and for the best price or prices that can be gotten for the same and by and out of the monies produced by such sale Upon Trust to satisfy my said Debts Funeral Expenses the Expenses of proving my said Will and the several Legacies by me hereinbefore and hereinafter given and disposed of or so much thereof that shall remain unsatisfied after applying my said Personal Estate in discharge thereof and Upon Trust to place out the residue of the Monies produced by the sale of my said Real Estate after all necessary deductions being first made thereout on some good and sufficient security or securities at interest and to pay such interest when and as the same shall from time to time accrue and be received unto my said Wife Mary Hunnisett or her assigns for and during the term of her natural life if she shall so long remain my widow and from and after the decease or second marriage of her my said Wife which shall first happen then unto the said Mary Samway or her assigns during the term of her natural life and after her decease Upon Trust to pay the said principal monies produced by the sale of my said Real Estate unto the children or child of the said Mary Samway living at the time of her death in equal shares and proportions if more than one such child share and share alike and I constitute and appoint the said John Pursglove sole Executor of this my last Will and Testament and for his care and trouble for performing my said Will and the trusts hereby reposed in him I give to him the sum of Ten Pounds of lawful money of Great Britain and my will is and I do hereby expressly declare that the purchaser or purchasers of my said Messuage or Tenement Hereditaments and premises or any part thereof his her or their heirs executors administrators or assigns shall not be compelled or compellable to see to the application of his her or their purchase money or purchase monies or any part thereof or be answerable or accountable for any loss or misapplication thereof or of any part thereof and hereby revoke all former and other Wills by me at any time or times heretofore made and declare this only to be my last Will and Testament. In Witness whereof I have to the first sheet of this my Will contained in two sheets of paper set my hand and to the last sheet thereof my hand and seal this twenty second day of March in the year of Our Lord One thousand eight hundred and eleven

The Will of William Hunnisett late of Herstmonceux within the Archdeaconry of Lewes shopkeeper deceased was proved the tenth day of October in the year of Our Lord One thousand eight hundred and twelve before the Rev. Edward Robert Raynes Clerk Surrogate and so forth Upon the Oath of John Pursglove the Sole Executor in the said Will named to whom was committed the administration of the goods He being first sworn well and faithfully to administer the same and so forth sworn also that the Goods Chattels and credits of the said deceased do not amount in value unto One Thousand Pounds.
