Richard Hunnisett (1811 - 1890) Policeman of Edinburgh

Richard, son of Joseph and Mary, was baptised in Stone-in-Oxney on 7 March 1811. How he came to be in Scotland is still a mystery but he is known to have married in Edinburgh and lived in Edinburgh and Tranent.

Proclamations of marriage were recorded in Edinburgh during April 1834 for Richard Hunneysett, a tailor, and Jane Anderson both residing in Greenside Street, St Andrew’s parish. In subsequent records Jane’s name was sometimes given as Joan or Johnann and her surname sometimes as Sanderson. In 1881 her place of birth was given as Prestonkirk, Haddington.
