Thomas Honeysett (1799 - 1863) gardener of Ashburnham

Thomas, a son of James and Sarah, appears to have been born in Warbleton in 1799 but not baptised until 21 January 1838 in Ashburnham. That he was a son of James is confirmed by the will of James' brother Edward. Thomas Hunnisett of Ashburnham married Hannah Weeks (1794-1857) in Herstmonceux on 26 October 1819 and they appear to have had four children, all baptised in Ashburnham:

Frances

buried 1 Mar 1821

Selina

2 Dec 1821

James

20 Apr 1823

Louise

26 Jun 1825

In 1841 Thomas was a gardener living at Stewards Cottage, Catsfield, with Hannah and their children, James and Louise; Selina had already married and left home.

In 1851 they were at Nursery in Ashburnham and Hannah was recorded as blind. With them were Louis and a 9-year-old James Veness, presumably Selina's son.

In 1861 Thomas was a widow living at Ponts Green, Ashburnham, with his son-in-law Henry Chandler and 22-year-old Ellen Christian.

Hannah died in 1857 and Thomas, of Dallington, was buried in Ashburnham on 11 April 1863, aged 67.

Of their children:

  • Selina married James Veness in Ashburnham on 1 January 1840; Thomas Honeysett was a witness.
  • James married Mary Erray in 1848 and was a farmer in Dallington.
  • Louis married Henry Chandler in Ashburnham on 14 December 1852; James and Selina Veness were witnesses.
